چکیده مقاله:

Background & Objective: Endometrial carcinoma (EC) has been traditionally classified into two distinct categories of low-grade and high-grade. Type I (low grade) EC, which constitutes the majority of cases, is linked to estrogen-related molecular pathways. But type II (high-grade) EC accounts for 10-20% of cases and behaves in an aggressive way. Pathologic and biological features of type II EC have not been fully elucidated yet. Several investigations have demonstrated HER2/neu expression and amplification in type II EC, especially papillary serous carcinoma (PSC).This study assessed HER2/neu expression in high-grade EC as well as its association with other clinical and histopathological prognostic factors. Methods: In this cross-sectional study, we performed HER2/neu immunohistochemical (IHC) staining in 37 high-grade EC cases with histological diagnostic categories of PSC (n=23), clear cell carcinoma (CCC) (n=9), and carcinosarcoma with high-grade carcinomatous component (PSC, CCC, grade 3 endometrioid carcinoma, or unclassified high-grade adenocarcinoma) (n=5). All patients were followed for 2-9 years in order to evaluate their disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS) during study period (2005-2014). Results: HER2/neu IHC staining was positive in 12 patients (32.4%) including 8/23 (34.8%) PSC, 2/9 (22.2%) CCC, and 2/5 (40%) carcinosarcoma cases. There was no statistically significant difference between HER2/neu expression and DFS or OS of the patients (P>0.05). Conclusion: We observed that HER2/neu is expressed in one-third of high-grade ECs. This ancillary test is supportive in follow-up of patients with high-grade ECs.

Study the Expression of CD10 in Prostate Carcinoma and its Correlation with Various Clinicopathological Parameters

Background and Objective: Adenocarcinoma of the prostate is the second most common cause of cancer. The loss of CD10 is a common early event in human prostate cancer and is seen in lower Gleason Score malignancies while increased and altered expression is seen in high Gleason Score tumors, lymph nodes and bone metastasis. Material and Methods: This was a ...

Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Expression in Oral Squamous Cell Carcinoma by Immunohistochemical Technique and its Correlation with Clinicopathological Features

Background:Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is the most common malignancy of the oral cavity. Despite some improvements in treatment, the survival rate is still very low, mainly due to the possible development of secondary malignancy or metastasis. Clinical and pathological features as well as molecular biomarkers might predict the recurrence. In recent years, many studies ...

Expression Of P53 And Ki67 Proteins In Renal Cell Carcinoma And Its Relationship With Nuclear Grade

Background and Objective: Evaluation of tumor proliferative activity may provide a predicting parameter to estimate biologic aggression and a subsequent prognosis that has been evaluated in many malignancies. We have selected renal cell carcinoma (RCC) in this study. To determine tumor proliferative activity, KI67 antibody was applied and results were compared with apoptosis, applying P53 antib...

An Immunohistochemical Study of Cyclin D1 Expression in Astrocytic Tumors and its Correlation with Tumor Grade

Background & Objective: Glioblastoma-multiforme is the high grade form of astrocytic tumors with a short survival time, which are the most common type of brain tumors. Therefore, finding new therapeutic options is essential. Cyclin D1 is expressed in some human malignancies and can be a potential target for therapeutic intervention. The aim of the present study was to determine...

Expression of Prostate-Specific Membrane Antigen (PSMA) in Brain Glioma and its Correlation with Tumor Grade

Background & Objective Angiogenesis is an essential component of tumor growth. Expression of PSMA on the neo-vasculature of many solid tumors, including glioblastoma multi-form, has been determined. The pattern of expression suggests that PSMA may play a functional role in angiogenesis. Methods: expression of PSMA in dif...
